What Is a Male Facelift?

A male facelift is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed to tighten the facial skin and underlying musculature, resulting in firmer, more youthful-looking facial skin and enhanced jawline definition.

Although a male facelift is quite similar to a standard facelift, there are certain factors that only apply to male patients. For example, men have a more masculine facial structure and tend to put more importance on a strong, chiseled chin and jawline. There may also be facial hair to consider, as the incisions made must not disrupt the hair follicles or growth patterns.

What Is a Male Neck Lift?

A male neck lift is very similar to a male facelift, but it’s slightly less invasive and focuses exclusively on the neck and jawline. During this procedure, Dr. Miller removes excess skin and fat around the neck, jawline, and beneath the chin. He also tightens the neck muscles to enhance the contour and shape of the neck.

While a standard neck lift is performed primarily to correct a loose, sagging neck, a male neck lift focuses more on defining the jawline, eliminating jowls, and strengthening the neck. This procedure can be performed separately from or in combination with the male facelift.

What Should I Expect During the Surgery?

The first step toward undergoing a male facelift and/or neck lift will be to sit down for a consultation with Dr. Miller. He will listen to your aesthetic goals and answer all of your questions about the procedures. Then, based on your unique preferences and needs, the doctor will work with you to devise a personalized treatment plan.

Typically, a male facelift and neck lift will be performed as outpatient procedures under general anesthesia. For a facelift, Dr. Miller will typically make small incisions behind your ears and into your hairline. For a neck lift, the incisions will be directly on your neck. After making the necessary incisions, Dr. Miller will begin making adjustments to your skin, tissue, and muscles depending on your unique treatment plan. He will adjust and/or remove skin and fat and tighten muscles as needed to achieve your desired results. He will then secure the new position of your skin and tissue before closing your incisions with sutures. Finally, the doctor will apply bandages and drainage tubes. Depending on the extent of your treatment, the surgery could take anywhere from two to six hours to complete.

How Long Is the Recovery Time?

The extent of your recovery downtime will depend on the specifics of your treatment. Typically, you’ll need to spend at least one to two weeks resting after a male facelift and/or neck lift. To minimize swelling and bruising, you’ll want to sleep with your head elevated for a few weeks. It’s also important to refrain from strenuous exercise for at least four to six weeks after your surgery.
